WATERCOLOURS IN TIME
Man has used the ancient art of watercolour painting since the beginning of time; the Palaeolithic and Neolithic cave drawings by the early dwellers from an era over 4000 years ago to the famous painters who practiced watercolour including Dunoyer de Segonzac, Jongkind, Boudin, Signac, Vlaminck, Bonington, Turner and Delacroix, show us our fantastic dexterity in this field!

With a fast drying paint composed of dry colour pigments diluted in water, the strokes of the brush must be bold , dramatic and unrepeated (not as in oil paintings) to achieve the desired effect, so giving little or no room for error, only the artist’s first impression will be left on the canvas.

Michel Rigel uses watercolours to reproduce a landscape or scene quickly while in the field, the advantage of a light sac including his Marten soft tip watercolour brushes, artist’s palette and pad enable him to set up quickly and record that moment in time for ever, held together by the strokes of his brush on the paper for later generations to admire.
