The French bronze sculpture Francais Michel Rigel was born near Bordeaux in 1950. After being school in the French Pyrenees Atlantiques, he made his way to Paris where he completed a course in art at the Beaux Arts, later on he could be found working at the house of Bellini: Artistic printing, here he worked with the latest equipment of the lithographier de Toulouse, side by side with Viera da Silva and Zaou- Wou- Ki.
Out of the techniques used in production (sand and wax melting), Rigel prefers to use wax, so as to re-touch personally each piece, thus preserving the initial model. This must be absolutely perfect in order to allow the french bronze to fuse successfully with the mold, keeping true to the original, right down to the last detail. Currently in preparation are a lion and a bison, using the CHARDON melting technique, which is the method used by the Louvre.
Michel Rigel is also specialised in both male and female nudes, which are produced by CHAPPON in Paris’ 20th. These are larger examples of his work which incorporate chiselling.
In his house in the Alpes Maritimes he spends his time shaping directly from the local stone which he finds in a mine situated on the road to the Hautes Ribes near Grasse in the 06 region of France.
Rigel is well referenced in the art cataloges of the world:ADEC, Drouot Cotation and the Akoun. He has also been referenced in the French Musem; The Bibliotheque National.
